Last week, we played dodgeball, medic, war ball, and prison ball. We reviewed all the games we learned over our dodgeball unit. Next week, we will review volleyball. We will play a game using the nets.
This week, we reviewed basketball. We went over ball handling drills, dribbling, and shooting. We got to play games of "horse" and games of "knock out." Some classes even got the chance to play an actual basketball game with their classmates. Next week, we will review football. We will go over how to properly throw a football, catch a football, and play the game of football. In SK through 2nd, we will begin working with scoops and whiffle balls. We will learn how to throw and catch to ourselves, eventually learning how to throw and catch with a partner.
We will be reviewing everything we have covered this year over the next five weeks. Last week, we review soccer. We went over ball handling, kicking, shooting to a goal, and finally, ended with a soccer match. This week, we will cover basketball. We will do ball handling drills, shooting drills, dribbling drills, and end with some fun games of knock out and horse.
We will begin our tennis unit next week. If anyone would like to bring a racquet in, they may. We will work on basic skills needed to hit a forehand, backhand, volley, and serve. We will have nets set up so that we may learn hitting over a net and back and forth with a partner. In SK through 2nd, we will work on our hula hoop skills next week. They also may bring in a hula hoop of their own if they would like.
We finished up our Presidential fitness testing this week. Last week, we did the PACER. The children run from cone to cone as long as possible, reporting their final score. This week, we did the flexibility, push ups, and sit ups. If they pass them all, they will receive a certificate at the end of the school year. I will be awarding top boy and girl in each grade on awards day. In SK through 2nd, we began jump roping. We learned the basics to start us off, swinging the rope, jumping over just the rope, then combining them all together. We will continue jump rope next week.
That ends the parachute and baseball units! We had a lot of fun learning new games and skills. When we get back from Spring Break, we will start more fitness based units. We will begin to prepare for our Presidential fitness testing for third grade through sixth grade. In SK through third grade, we will work on fitness based activities, learning pushups, sit ups, and other exercises. Hope everyone has a safe and wonderful Spring Break!!!!!!!
We played a full baseball game this week in PE. We used the tee but it was good practice for the rules and hitting form. We got to work on fielding the ball and learning where to throw it, as well as hitting and when to run and when not to run. It was a lot of fun for everyone. Next week, we will try a baseball game with slow pitch. In SK through 2nd, this was our last week of Parachute fun. We got to learn a lot of cool things with the parachute like the club house and class picture formations, the game shark attack, color switcheroo, and popcorn.
We began our baseball unit this week. We worked on the fundamentals of throwing, catching, and hitting. For throwing and catching, I had them practice throwing back and forth with a partner using proper form. For practice on fielding, I had the thrower throw pop flies and roll ground balls. We then moved on to hitting. Each student got a chance to practice hitting off of a tee, where they could focus on form and contact.
In SK through 2nd, we continued fun with the parachute. This week, we played shark attack and then switcheroo. Shark attack involved two or three students crawling under the parachute while the rest of the class shook the parachute to make waves. Those students that were sharks pick another student to take their place as shark. The second game we played was switcheroo. In this game, we start in the ready position. When I say go, the students lift the parachute above their heads. I yell a color and those students on that color, switch with other students on that color. It was a fun day for everyone! Great job on STEAM night! All of the projects and classrooms looked fantastic. I enjoyed seeing everyone's hard work.
The past few weeks, we have learned ball handling skills, practiced passing to teammates, and shooting into goals. Next week, we will combine all those skills together and play a full out soccer game. We will learn rules and basic game play. We will split into four teams. Two will play on one half and the other two will play on the other half. Then switch after a certain amount of time has passed. We will make a tournament out of it. I want us to learn the value of teamwork and sportsmanship as well as having a great time with our classmates. This week, we did a review and run through all of our ball handling drills from last week (ball taps, boxing, trapping). Next, we moved on to passing drills with a partner. We learned how to properly kick the ball to a partner using the inside of our foot. Our game for the week was sharks and minnows. We had a circle set up. Everyone has a ball and have to dribble it within the boundaries. Any player can try and kick another student’s ball out of the circle. If your ball rolls outside of the boundaries, they are out until the next game.
