In PE this week, we worked on all of our soccer ball handling skills from SK all the way through 6th grade. Next for 3rd through 6th grade, we will move on to passing drills with a partner. We will learn how to properly kick the ball to a partner using the inside of our foot. The partner will trap the ball before returning it. Our game for the week will be sharks and minnows. We will have a circle set up. Everyone will have a ball and have to dribble it within the boundaries. Any player can try and kick another student’s ball out of the circle. If your ball rolls outside of the boundaries, they are out until the next game. For grades SK through 2nd grade, we will practice passing it gently to a partner and have them trap it then they will send it back to their partner. Finally, we will play “Shadow dribble.” The one with the ball will be the leader. The other without the ball will be the shadow. The goal is for the leader to leave the shadow behind by cutting, faking, stopping and changing directions. Shadows will follow closely but not too closely. We will switch roles often.
